This is one of my daughters when she was about 14 tears old.  She, David, and I had been fishing north of Port Mansfield...Another adventure.

When we left Port Mansfield, the wind was kicking up pretty good; and there was a fairly strong chop outside the harbor mouth.  Apparently, as we hit that chop, we also hit a floating timber with a bolt sticking out of it.  We decided that the only place we might catch any fish that day would be north, up the Intracoastal Waterway, where there was a rocky bottom; and we headed there, right into the wind.

When we reached the place we wanted to fish, I dropped the anchor, and David and I baited up and started fishing.  Linda wanted to do some crabbing, so I told her to look inside the forward hatch for a crab net.  When she opened the hatch, the hold was full of water clear up to the hatch.  Fortunately, there was so much Styrofoam in the sealed compartments of the boat that it couldn't sink.

We decided that we should put into the shore and see how bad the damage was, so we ran straight west to the King Ranch shoreline and beached the boat.  With the help of a couple of stout fence posts, we managed to careen (tilt) the boat far enough to see the leak.  It turned out to be a gash about 1 in. wide and about 6 in. long.  As usual, there were tools aboard, so we removed a small door from the console; and used it and my handkerchief to plug the hole well enough to pump out the boat.

Meanwhile, Linda had picked up my baited rod and cast out  into the choppy waters of the bay.  We were just getting finished with the repairs, when we heard her shouting for help.  She had this trout on (her first); and it was putting up a heck of a fight.  She finally landed it, and we headed back to port.  Along the way, our prop hung up on something.  When we went to clear it, we ended up cutting about 500 feet of illegal gill net into short pieces and turning it into the guy at the marina where we had launched.
